Location:                    49 Stone Street

Position:                     Youth Intervention Specialist          

Hours:                        37.5 hours per week

Salary Range:            $14.63 - $17.43/hourly

Summary of Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Youth Prevention Services Coordinator, the Youth Intervention Specialist works collaboratively with the Youth Health Advocates, program staff, and community partners in the delivery of high impact HIV/STD prevention services for high-risk young people. This position is primarily responsible for assisting in coordinating and implementing intervention/prevention activities and services to high-risk and HIV positive young people. Staff will work Youth Health Advocate/Peer Leaders in program recruitment and leads marketing/social networking efforts; conducts consumer intake and individual assessments; facilitates evidence based prevention/intervention curriculums and educational/informational presentations/sessions; coordinates special program events; provides info & referral services, linkage, navigation and retention services to consumers; maintains information and data bases on all program activities; monitors service objectives and completes status report on progress; and represents the program on related area task force groups/committees.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Public Administration, Health Science/Community Health, Human Services, Youth/Family Counseling, or related discipline; and/ or equivalent combination of 2-year educational degree and related experience, which indicates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position.

  • Requires two to three years of work experience in human services, health education/administration, youth developmental asset building, family/youth development, youth/family counseling, advocacy, or related field.

  • Requires 1-2 years of experience in program development/planning; recruitment & program marketing; events planning; and/or community engagement required

  • Must possess an extensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS and STI/HCV high impact prevention/intervention strategies and care services; and knowledge of HIV/AIDS/STI/HCV data and trends both locally & nationally.

  • Requires strong public speaking, presentation and facilitation skills; knowledge of group dynamics/youth engagement/integration activities and team building strategies required; and knowledge of positive youth development/asset building strategies required.

  • Requires the skills to engage the highest risk youth (LGBTQ youth) and facilitate prevention education, with a focus on High Impact HIV/AIDS interventions, to large and small groups.

  • Requires strong interpersonal and customer service skills; enthusiasm, sensitivity and ability to work with  diverse individuals from diverse back-grounds; must have the ability to interact with people/groups at all levels in a variety of settings with a particular understanding of the issues relating to special needs populations. Must have good understanding and sensitivity of related issues faced by individuals/families affected by health conditions/sexuality.

  • Requires familiarity with the Greater Rochester community and local/national resources working in the health/youth service field; ability to work in creating shared youth/adult leadership initiatives; developing  partnerships/collaborations with area organizations including the Monroe County Health Department, health clinics/hospitals, school districts, other supportive providers, research groups, committees and public entities dedicated to service provision and advocacy.

  • Must have strong leadership, organizational, analytical, planning skills and good record-keeping skills; must have excellent time-management skills; ability to multi-task and give/follow directives; and work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Requires knowledge and experience in social marketing including print media, video production and social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
