Position:                      Intake Worker

Hours:                         37.5 hrs/wk, 52 weeks/year

Salary Range:             $11.80 – 15.48/hour




Summary of Responsibilities:

Responsible for program data entry of confidential client information into various data bases including TIER, ARES, OASAS Client Management System.  Also responsible for the handling of client insurance eligibility and oversight of client transportation eligibility and distribution. Responsible for overseeing ABC in-house billing tasks and is the primary liaison with Billing Contractor. Must be flexible to work with multiple program staff and outside entities such as Health Care Providers, Insurance Agencies, DHHS.  Ability to multi task and is a support for the Administrative Assistant and Office Support Staff.  Other duties as assigned by management.



Qualifications/Education and Experience:


Experience and Education:

  • Associates Degree in Business Administration or related field and working knowledge of accounting practices or combination of education and experience and how to apply in a behavioral health setting

  • An advanced working level knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Products and related applications

  • 3-5 years experience interacting with the Department of Health and Human Services

  • Three to five years of medical billing and bookkeeping in behavioral health setting.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of  APG’s and Medicaid Managed Care transition

  • Working knowledge of medical billing and batching procedures, Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and direct patient billing for behavioral services.

  • Knowledgeable of OASAS a

  • Extensive knowledge base and interaction with the Department of Health and Human Services. ARES

  • Administrative, interpersonal, organizational, planning, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to deal with clients and other people at all organizational levels, both internal and external; attention to detail.

  • Experience with OASAS Client Management System.

  • The health and physical capability to work in an office environment.


All employees of ABC’s New Directions Program must receive and maintain a full clearance from the Justice Center of New York that allows them unsupervised contact with clients (at the Agency’s expense). Any prospective or current employee who has an indication of abuse, maltreatment or neglect, or who cannot be left unsupervised with clients, will not be hired or retained.
